Before Your Hardwood Installation

As you remove all furniture and baseboards from your rooms receiving new hardwood floors, it is also wise to take down all framed pieces and picture of the walls. Old flooring will need to be completely removed and disposed of unless you have an engineered hardwood that can be installed as a floating floor.

For traditional hardwood planks, you will need a completely level plywood subfloor as hardwood cannot be directly installed on concrete. Your new planks will also need to acclimate to the room conditions for 2-3 days before installation. Take your doors down ahead of installation as you will most likely need to shave them to adjust to the new hardwood flooring height.

During & After Your Hardwood Installation

With the many power and hand tools that are needed such as saws, leveling tools, compressors, nail guns, sanders, buffers, adhesives, and more, we do not consider installing hardwood planks as a DIY-friendly project. The LMK Floors installation team has the knowledge of centering rooms, expansion gaps, working around doors, closets, and stairs, and cutting planks for tricky floorplans. Avoid time-consuming and expensive mistakes by working with the best!

Some engineered or waterproof hardwood varieties will offer glue, staple, or floating installation, that can take less time than traditional hardwoods. The waterproof and performance warranties of your new floors are highly contingent on proper installation. Once your hardwood floors are down, you should wait roughly 24 hours before walking on them with shoes, and about 48 hours before setting furniture back in the rooms.
